The RAF Air Cadets opens up a world of opportunities and experience for you, including:
Flying and gliding, air experience flights in RAF aircraft, scholarships for both flying and gliding which could lead you to ultimately fly solo.
Learn about the Royal Air Force and defence industry capabilities in satellite communications, rocketry, air and space technology. And for those curious about computer and networking skills, you can learn about programming, cyber security and cyber warfare.
You can take part in a multitude of different skills such as sports, music, bands, first aid, radio communications, drill and road marching. RAF Air Cadets is also one of the largest UK providers of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme, so get involved and work your way up to the Gold award.
If adventure training is more your thing, then you can try rock climbing, abseiling, high-level hill walking, mountain-biking, canoeing, high rope work and sailing.
Visit specialist units across the UK armed forces and take part in target shooting, parachuting and go on annual camps at military bases in the UK and overseas. There’s also the chance to work on your fieldcraft and survival skills and experience overseas travel through the International Air Cadet Exchange programme.
Whatever activities you choose to enjoy, you will certainly gain skills that can help with all aspects of your life, from now into adulthood. These skills will be useful for any path you follow in the future. There’s no need to worry about your level of ability or experience. Once you join the squadron, you will get to know other cadets and start basic training.
