Do you want an incredible combination of adventure, opportunity and fun? The Air Cadets can offer
cadets and adult volunteers second-to-none experiences where you can make lasting friendships and
build upon your confidence, skills and achievements. This section will give you all the facts about
getting started in an exciting new direction.
Join us a Cadet
So, are you ready to take the first step towards all the opportunities and benefits that the air cadets
can offer you? It's important to know that we're not a recruiting organisation for the Services (but
it's great if you decide you want to join later on). Equality is a central part of the Air Cadets’
ethic. The cadet experience is open to everyone, so whatever your nationality, background or ability,
whether you're male or female, if you're between 13, or at age 12 when beginning school year 8 and 17
years old you can join us.

Over 20? Then join us as an Adult Volunteer
If you're aged over 20 you can volunteer. That's it. No need for military experience or any form of
previous training - we'll take care of that. We're just looking for suitable, enthusiastic individuals
to help our cadets get the most from their time with us. And it’s not just the cadets who can benefit,
adult volunteers also have the opportunity to do lots of exciting activities and develop personal skills
and talents.
All kinds of people make up our volunteer staff, coming from a range of backgrounds and interests.
Obviously if you have direct experience of working with young people, you would be particularly welcome,
but this isn’t essential as we will train and support you. That said, you should have some essential
personal qualities such as patience, maturity and responsibility, along with an understanding of young
people and their needs.

What can I do as a Parent?
We’re committed to keeping parents aware of what we do and the lengths we go to ensure that all our
activities are safe, well organised and that our members gain a structured and invaluable experience. We
ask parents for as little as possible. However, you are responsible for their uniform, which is valued
at around £200 and is issued on loan - it should only be used for air cadet activities and must be
returned at the end of their time with us. Beyond this, your responsibility is mainly for getting your
child to the squadron promptly for parade nights and any activities and supporting them as they
progress. However, any further involvement is always gratefully received, and you can join our Civilian
Committee. Contact us for more information.
